UMaT Student Passes Away Mysteriously Days After Earning UK Scholarship

Third-year UMaT student Davis Frimpong Manso dies under unclear circumstances after winning UK scholarship

The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa has been rocked by grief following the sudden death of a promising third-year student, Davis Frimpong Manso.

Davis, who was pursuing a degree in Logistics and Transport, tragically passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 — just days after receiving a scholarship to continue his studies in the United Kingdom. What was supposed to be the beginning of a bright future has turned into a heartbreaking loss.

Though the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed, sources on campus suggest that the tragedy may have occurred shortly after Davis shared a meal with his roommate.
A witness, speaking anonymously via Snapchat, claimed:

“The night it happened, he ate with his roommate. After the food, the roommate left and hasn’t returned. Calls to him haven’t gone through since.”
The situation has left many in shock, especially as the roommate in question has reportedly been unreachable and is yet to return or make contact.

This unexpected loss has sent waves of sorrow across the UMaT community. Friends, students, and staff alike are still trying to come to terms with the tragedy of a young man whose dreams were just taking flight. Our thoughts are with Davis’s family, friends, and all who knew him. May his soul rest in peace, and may clarity and justice follow in due time.
